With the Sidebar Lite app for Android mobile devices, users can take a lot of control over how their apps are arranged and accessed, organized much like a desktop arrangement.

Overview of Sidebar Lite

Android mobile users know that they're bombarded with app after app, and by and large most people have dozens of apps that they find useful and essential for their everyday computing. However, arranging these apps and accessing them can be difficult, which is why Sidebar Lite might just solve those issues. With this particular app, users can actually arrange a sidebar drop-box on the screen of their mobile device, wherein all of your important apps, programs and other data can be stored. So instead of having to swipe all over the place, you will simply access the sidebar and find what you need.

This is actually incredibly convenient and isn't just another app that's going to be in the way. This free app is ideal for any Android mobile device and has a small footprint of only 3mb. The app is available only in English, but there's not a lot to read anyway. It's basically a storage app that allows you to arrange your device per your liking.

How Sidebar Lite Works

The download process for Sidebar Lite is like any other app, in that you go to the page and install the APK. Once opened, you will find a few instructions that prompt you to start moving your app icons into a box. You can arrange them in any order you want, and from any part of your device that you want. Once you have them arranged, you save it and the box becomes a vertical sidebar on your mobile screen, which can be accessed by touching anywhere around that area.

The default setting places the bar on the left side of the screen; however, if you would like it on the right side, you simply just need to drag it over there and it will stay there permanently, until you decide to move or uninstall. Overall the process is very simple and can help you save a ton of clutter on your mobile device, especially smaller smartphones.

Sidebar Lite Features

The sidebar feature itself offers a lot to users. For starters, it's all as simple as dragging and dropping items into the bar. They will be saved there and arrange themselves into a vertical menu after you save your progress. Though if you want, you can also drag and adjust how large the sidebar is, and even change its positioning on your screen, so you have the ability to totally customize this in any way you see fit.

Something else that's very handy about Sidebar Lite is that you can drop any sort of setting feature into the menu too. Say you want to control your WiFi when you're traveling. You don't have to dig around in the settings for this; you can simply move that setting into the sidebar for easy access.

Potentially dangerous permissions

  • CAMERA: Required to be able to access the camera device.

Other permissions

  • ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE: Allows applications to access information about networks.
  • ACCESS_WIFI_STATE: Allows applications to access information about Wi-Fi networks.
  • CHANGE_NETWORK_STATE: Allows applications to change network connectivity state.
  • CHANGE_WIFI_STATE: Allows applications to change Wi-Fi connectivity state.
  • GET_TASKS: This constant was deprecated in API level 21. No longer enforced.
  • KILL_BACKGROUND_PROCESSES: Allows an application to call killBackgroundProcesses(String).
  • RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED: Allows an application to receive the ACTION_BOOT_COMPLETED that is broadcast after the system finishes booting. If you don't request this permission, you will not receive the broadcast at that time. Though holding this permission does not have any security implications, it can have a negative impact on the user experience by increasing the amount of time it takes the system to start and allowing applications to have themselves running without the user being aware of them. As such, you must explicitly declare your use of this facility to make that visible to the user.
  • REORDER_TASKS: Allows an application to change the Z-order of tasks.
  • SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW: Allows an app to create windows using the type TYPE_SYSTEM_ALERT, shown on top of all other apps. Very few apps should use this permission; these windows are intended for system-level interaction with the user.
  • VIBRATE: Allows access to the vibrator.
  • WRITE_SETTINGS: Allows an application to read or write the system settings.
